Lost treasures that we’ve stumbled across and thought of you. Anything from toys and figurines, to old illustrations from books published 100 years ago.
Find old albums for your record player. Flip through the CDs of worldly, classic and stylish music. Scan the DVDs for favourite films and full season box-sets.
You get 20% off the price we sell it for (not the price printed on the cover).
Bring your unwanted books to us. You’re not going to pay rent with the cash we give you, but it’s a good way to clear your shelves. Or you can take a store credit and it becomes an exchange, your books for ours.
Mind you, we won’t take romance and anything with dog ears or a cracked spine.
The River Trading Company is a retirement project for David and Mary McGowan. Their expertise in running a second hand book store was gained from being life-long patrons of such. They have tried to set up The River as the kind of store that they like to shop at.
David’s reading is in history (ancient), philosophy and speculative fiction (mostly fantasy). Mary also reads history (mainly WWII and particularly espionage and deception), and crime novels. They both enjoy historical fiction, essays, and popular science.
The book store provides them with good conversation, exercise when they have books to shlep around, and the excitement of taking in new material, especially when they obtain a collection of several hundred books at a time.
David and Mary’s constant companions in the store are their four cats. The mother came to them from the alley in 2017, pregnant, and gave them three beautiful kittens.
